Environmental Restoration and Reforestation Investment in the Local Province

The success of any mining operation is measured not only by economic efficiency but also by its responsibility toward the surrounding environment and society. In recent years, as Mongolia’s mining industry has expanded, national environmental protection laws and regulations have continued to evolve to promote responsible mining practices.
Our company established its environmental management system, including implementation and monitoring activities, in parallel with the start of mining operations. Since then, we have operated in full compliance with Mongolian laws, regulations, national standards, and sustainable development policy principles.
Since the start of mining operations, between 2008 and 2023, a total of 147.7 hectares of environmental restoration and reforestation work has been completed and formally handed over to the Selenge Province Commission. As part of these efforts, a variety of perennial plants, including two-year-old pines, elms, fruit trees, and bushes, have been planted to support long-term ecological recovery.
Between 2010 and 2023, as part of technical rehabilitation and equivalent environmental protection efforts, 56.55 hectares of land have been restored. This includes the recovery and rehabilitation of 10 hectares of land in the Tolgoit deposit area of Bugant, Mongolia, which had been affected by artisanal gold mining.
To date, more than MNT 1 billion has been invested in rehabilitation work. Furthermore, an additional MNT [insert amount] has been allocated toward local budgeting, development, and construction for environmental initiatives.
Since 2012, a tree nursery has been established on a 0.5-hectare area within the mining settlement to ensure a reliable and continuous supply of tree seedlings for rehabilitation, reforestation, and urban landscaping.
In 2013, a grove was established at the mining site to help meet the miners’ nutritional needs and to promote ecological education among workers. Approximately 5,000 trees across six species were planted, and the grove continues to bear fruit today.
As part of efforts to create a healthy and comfortable living environment and to enhance the mining town with green landscaping, the replanting of roadsides and heavily used areas is being carried out on a continuous basis.
